Seller's Description:
Very Good+ in Very Good jacket. Signed by Author(s) 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall. VG+/VG. Stated first edition, a presentation copy, signed by Robert M. Myers on the FEP. "Inscribed for Neal Becton, With all good wishes from me and----", (signed) Robert Manson Myers, Atlanta, Ga. 29 April, 1976. Neal Becton is a writer for the Washington Post. This is a never before published collection of letters of the Jones, with their correspondence covering the years 1850-1852. Orginally the Jones were introduced in an earlier book, The Children of Pride. The Jones live in South Carolina at this time and their house burns. Providentially, Dr. Jones is offered a position with the Board of Domestic Missions in Philadelphia. They move and send their two sons to Princeton. Through their eyes we see the swift changes brought on by technological revolution, the tragic widening of the rift between the North and the South, the unlikely juxtaposition of Christian scholarship and ribald escapades that marked the Princeton community at the time.
