A great book in the Waldorf style of teaching - rhymes, imagination, etc. for helping children remember what to do. My 7 yo son is enjoying knitting now. Includes instructions for making needles, verses to help remember casting on/off, various stitches, etc. Covers the basics very, very clearly in child-friendly language, and has easy directions for little animals to make.
One thing: It is better to learn it yourself, and then teach your child, if at all possible. (I'm sure the authors know this, but the book is directed to children, so they don't mention it.) My 7 yo still hasn't seen the book. Fortunately, the authors make it easy enough to pick up quickly so you can pass it on to your child.
