Excerpt from A Discourse on Intemperance: Delivered at Cincinnati, March 1, 1828, Before the Agricultural Society of Hamilton County, and Subsequently Pronounced, by Request, to a Popular Audience It is well known that some one or more of these liquors, are generally and copiously drunk by almost every nation. In one country we find wine the national drink, in another beer, in a third cider, - ih the Western Country it is the Spirit distilled chiefly from rye and Indian corn. Other diinks are in use, but the quantities consumed are com paratively so small, that this may fairly be considered our national beverage, and to its use and abuse I shall limit my remarks.
