HO MAS MAGNUS, Archdeacon of the Eaft Riding in the Metropolitan Church of York, by X(a an Indenture made in thed Year of the Reign of Henry the Eighth, left his Eftates in Sandwalk near Eilbrought in the County of Tork, and in Haruell, Ever ton, and Matterfey in the County of Nottingham, and in Folkynham, Walcottys, Boylby, and Ajlotxby in the County of Lincoln, towards the Maintenance of a Grammar SchoolmaAer, a Song Schoolmafter, and Singing Boys, to the Church Work of the Church of Newark, H er t or to fome other Common Weal, as Need (hall require; and the faid Thomas Magnus ordaineth, that none of the find Schoolmafters, for the Time being, fhall be Religious or Beneficed Perfbns, Officed, or Stipendiaries; but that they, the one teaching Grammar, and the other teaching Song, fliall only ferve; attend, and continue in the faid School, and at Newark, perfonally, unlefs they have any Impediment by Sicknefs. The late Right Honourable the Earl of Hardwicke, in his Decree, kept as clofely as he could in all Refpects to the original Defigns of Mr. Magnus, and of the two other confiderable Benefactors, MefTrs. Brown and Pbilpot; but the Change of the Times made fome Alterations very neceflary. Firft, with regard to Mr. Magnus's Charity, his Lordmip Ordered, Adjudged, and Decreed, That a Receiver of the Rents of the faid Magnus's Eftates fliould be chofen and appointed on the Monday in Whitfun Week, between the Hours of One and Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Body of the Church of Newark, by the Vicar of the faid Church, the Mayor, the next Senior Alderman, and the Four Churchwardens, or the Major Part of them (the Vicar or the Mayor to be one); and that the faid Receiver be removeable at the Pleafure of the faid Vicar, ..
