Eager to protect his fortune, and with no one else to turn to, he offers her the chance to make something of her life: to look after his money - to enjoy it, invest it, set up a business, whatever she wants, as long as she and his money are there when he gets out of prison. The Deal sounds too good to be true for her - a fortune to spend as she chooses, but one day he will get out and the 'Deal' is that both her and the money are his.
