This book was a total disappointment; after reading the McKettrick and Stone Creek series? I was prepared for a book of the same ilk. Wrong! One focus of this novel seemed to be explaining family relationships to those who had not read the Stone Creek series (but all 6 book?s worth?).
Another focus was making sure the reader understood just how gorgeous Steve Creed was ? and how beautiful Melissa was. Their relationship seemed to be based on their looks; there just wasn?t enough preparation so the reader would understand why they would be attracted to each other ? other than lust.
**SPOILER** There was almost no preparation for Melissa to change jobs. At one point, she asks her twin if she ever felt that her life didn?t fit who she was anymore. I was floored; the book opens with Melissa as a killer prosecutor who doesn?t take prisoners. More than ½ of the book talks about how Melissa loves the law and wants to make a difference.
Steve Creed seems a bit too weepy to me. It seemed as if LLM was trying to use the grief of a young orphan (and his new guardian) to carry the story.
The same phrases were used too many times: Everyone wanted to stroke Matt?s hair; Steve was too sexy for his own good; everything Melissa wore was so perfect that Steve had to ooh-and-ah over the ensemble, jeans, etc.
I?ll probably flip through the next book in the trilogy; if it is as bad as this one, I?ll dump the rest of this series.
