And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father i.e., "Moses did give a sign, thou givest none." Our Lord's reply is, "I myself am the sign. For as God gave you manna for a sign, so he has given you me, the true bread from heaven." 3 Down to this point v. 33) our Lord has been teaching that there are two kinds of bread--one the bread that perishes with its use for the body, the other the spiritual bread which satisfies for ever the hunger of the soul. Throughout the rest of this discourse He is teaching that He Himself is that spiritual bread. 6 From this point to the end of this paragraph regard as a parenthesis, and then the connection of the rest of the discourso will be more clear. The discourse on the "bread of life" is interrupted by the Jews' anger at Christ's speaking of himself as "coming down from heaven." and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
