What she hasn't told him is that the trip, with a group of American teachers, includes a risky plan that could bring the wrath of the Chinese government upon him. He slips and slides through a packed itinerary encountering places and people that surprise him - people like Guy Anderson, Dr S???ng, the Mosuo people and the Chinese barber/musicians in Dali who will remain in his memory forever. Despite restrictions, he manages to take some of the best pictures of his life and make his escape with a bit of help from a witchy connection in St Ives.
