I always enjoy Barbara Paul's work, not least her series about the New York Opera. When you have such characters as Caruso and Toscanini in the cast, and operatic disasters to enjoy, there is immense scope for fun and murder. She writes so very well, she makes her characters so engaging, that it would be hard not to take pleasure in her novels. And I gather her research is also excellent, so that she is accurate, for 'true crime' lovers. No, it's hard to detail the plot, not because it can't be done, but much of my enjoyment comes from her style and characterisation, whoever 'dunnit'.
