Beautiful and Thorough
This volume is a brief photographic atlas of gross human anatomy. It consists of numerous photos of meticulously dissected cadaveric preparations - each organ or structure examined in isolation, with surrounding material removed and structures exactingly cleaned and exposed. As such, it is not a dissection manual or a realistic presentation of structures in situ, but it is an artistic-quality presentation of each distinct structure in extraordinary detail and clarity. The book covers major organ systems, organs, and structures down to a fairly low macroscopic level. Major structures are clearly labeled. The photographs are hauntingly beautiful, in their way, and the clarity is unparalleled. It is not suitable as a professional anatomy text, but would make an excellent adjunct text in college or medical-school courses, and a great reference book for high-school and higher libraries or for medical illustrators. For enthusiasts of the art, it is a lovely piece of work for study or just browsing.
