Boston: Ticknor, Reed and Fields, MDCCCXMX. 16mo, vol. i, pp. xii, 251; vol. ii, pp. vii, 254, boards. viii This edition is a revised one, but as the volumes which form the substance of it had been stereotyped, it was found easier to cancel than to correct. Accordingly several poems and parts of poems have been left out of the first volume, and their places supplied in most instances by selections from an earlier volume, published in 1841. These intercalated pieces will be found sufficiently designated by the dates appended to each. The second volume has been made correspondent in size with its fellows, by the addition of some poems more lately written. Contents Of Vol. I. Seller's Description:
8vo. Coral cloth with paper spine label. ix, 208pp (rectos only). Tissue-guarded frontispiece. Very good. Binding mildly edgeworn and age toned, with miniscule chipping at head of spine; paper spine label is the "spare" originally bound in at rear, as it's bright and pristine; faint inoffensive abrasion on front pastedown and front flyleaf an expert contemporary replacement; internally tight and near fine. Tight and nice first edition, limited to 530 numbered copies (this #250), of this highly-regarded guide to the works of the versatile American critic, poet, diplomat, editor and man of letters (1819-91). The most discreet ex-library imaginable, main evidence being a small and faint blind-emboss on title page.
