Most of the artists are one- or two-hit wonders: the Five Man Electrical Band's "Signs," the Undisputed Truth's "Smiling Faces Sometimes," Lee Michaels' "Do You Know What I Mean," Dennis Coffey & the Detroit Guitar Band's "Scorpio," and the Stampeders' "Sweet City Woman" were these performers' only Top Ten hits. Some artists were more successful on the R&B charts, but these songs represented rare crossover hits: "Have You Seen Her" was one of the Chi-Lites' two Top Ten pop hits, and the Persuaders' "Thin Line Between Love & Hate" was their only Top 20 pop hit. Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds, meanwhile, had only one Top Ten hit besides "Don't Pull Your Love," and though Tommy James had a raft of hits with his old band the Shondells, "Draggin' the Line" was his only Top Ten pop hit as a solo artist. Thus, these songs are sometimes better known than the artists who recorded them.
