German description: Die Entwicklung des Faches Transfusionsmedizin zu einer selbstandigen Disziplin begleitet die rasante Entwicklung der modernen Hochleistungsmedizin in der zweiten Halfte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Vor dem Hintergrund der Geschichte des Faches schildert das vorliegende Buch die Entstehung der selbstan- digen Abteilung fur Transfusionsmedizin am Universitats-klinikum Erlangen und arbeitet vor allem deren Besonderheiten und Alleinstellungsmerkmale in der Bayerischen Hochschul-medizin heraus.
