Josh Lanyon began writing detective stories with the wonderful, moody book Dark Shadows, which had a genuine feeling for character (albeit slightly zany twists in the story). The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks is nothing but cliches: it opens in a stormbound hotel, the corpse in a bathtub, inside a room locked from the inside, etc. Even viewed as a satire on the genre, it isn't believable. I threw out my copy after reading a few pages.
