This romantic novel - written in the early 1980's - is one my most favorite - and I am not a lover of romantic novels. My overactive teenage imagination was captured by this feverishly romantic tale of the artistic genius Julien Mistral, his loves, and his daughter. This book gets better to me with each rereading - the Provence setting, the early 20th-century French art scene, beautiful artists' models, and high-fashion and modeling from the 1940's to the 1970's. It was - and is - one of the most perfectly-realized and decadent romantic books ever written!
