OK but out of date
If you are interested in the motives of major criminals you will find this interesting. Unfortunately, the author doesn't really get the psychological trauma most perpetrators have suffered, as it's only since the 90's that the connections have really been understood. Thus he still sees some perpetrators as "evil" or monsters. There is now treatment that could help some of these people if the conditions were caught early enough or if their traumas were prevented by proper conditions in their childhood. Punishment after the fact does hot produce any lasting change, and in most cases will only provoke the person into worse behaviour if ever released or if they escape. For better information, see the book "Violence" by Gilligan.
