Boston Divorcee Takes on a Small Town in Maine
In Camden, Maine when the 20th century was young, divorce was not ?respectable?, even if you were escaping a philandering husband. Neither was a woman bringing up three children by herself, going off in a Model T to earn a living, leaving them to their own devices. Condemned by her mother and sister, and pursued by her brother-in-law, Roberta is determined never to be a victim again and to make her own way in life.
Having been brought up in a small town in Maine myself, I laughed out-loud reading this book, but also appreciated and recognized the serious issues a woman like Roberta was facing in a traditional New England environment.
