'A brother,' he said. Jesus Christ! Now where'd this brother come from? Whose brother? Montalbano had known from the start that between all the brothers, uncles, in-laws, nephews and nieces, this case was going to drive him crazy. Chief Inspector Montalbano is on enforced sick leave. He is being vigorously looked after by his spirited girlfriend Livia, which unfortunately means his housekeeper - an excellent cook - has retreated in a fit of pique. As always Camilleri gets right down to a great plot and fun characters. Montalbano seems almost real to me.

Great book of course
Andrea Camilleri writes wonderful books that have intriguing stories; language that makes one smile; captures a place and its atmosphere, not forgetting the food, that also speaks volumes of what I believe is Sicily. I love all his books and can hardly wait for the next. All the detective series are equally unique and are a great read; go one buy one you wont be sorry.

You will definitely enjoy spending time with the droll Inspector Montalbano as he investigates a kidnapping on the island of Sicily. While searching for Susanna Mistretta's abductors, he deals with bumbling colleagues, media hungry for scandal, a painful gunshot wound, and a prickly relationship with his girlfriend. (As usual, he finds respite in good food.) Andrea Camilleri's novels are delightfully evocative of Sicily, full of humor and insight into human nature.
