There have been no recent editions of Gar rick's works. None of the farces here given has been reprinted since the appearance of The Lying Valet in The British Drama, Philadelphia, 18 50. The present plays have been chosen because of their possibilities for modern representation and for their variety of plot. As it happens, they were written at widely separated periods of Garrick's career, and they are here arranged in chronological order.
