It is a source book for the many media in which Paolozzi has worked and also includes writings which reflect on many of the major cultural and social issues of the 20th century which still continue to exercise artists and art historians at the beginning of the 21st century. He speaks revealingly of his Scottish childhood and the divided culture he grew up in; of Paris immediately after World War II and the importance of Surrealism to his art; his part in the formation of the Independent Group which led to the development of Pop Art in Britain; of art education and teaching, including the Royal College of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, where he was Professor of Sculpture for 10 years.
