For the serious magnetics designer, Flanagan offers a good general coverage volume that more or less replaces the long out of print book by Reuben Lee with updated and expanded material. The author's years of practical experience are evident in chapters on device economics, procurement practice, and specifications and quality assurance that are absent from other books. There is also considerable coverage of insulation systems, factory methods, and other materials that go beyond the usual treatises that restrict themselves to magnetics design as such. Though the emphasis is power applications bsed on powder cores, laminations, etc., and a great deal on 3 phase systems, there is also material on audio, pulse, and video into the low MHz region that evokes the Reuben Lee treatment. This book will serve anyone involved in serious transformer and inductor design for many years to come.
