Diller was a geometric abstractionist who studied with Jan Matulka and Hans Hofmann. His work was greatly influenced by Constructivism and the Neoplasticism of de Stijl. During the 1930s he worked for the WPA Federal Art Project, eventauly heading its New York City mural division. He was an early member of the American Abstract Artists group.
