Orlando Patterson

Orlando Patterson was born in Jamaica in 1940, obtained a PhD from the LSE in 1965 and taught at the LSE and the University of the West Indies before moving in 1970 to Harvard, where he is John Cowles Professor of Sociology. His many books include Slavery and Social Death, Freedom in the Making of Western Culture and The Ordeal of Integration.
