Linda Stevens Hjorth is a Senior Professor at DeVry Institute of Technology where she has been teaching student success and psychology classes for fifteen years. She is also co-creator of the First Year Advising center where she has advised Business, Computer Information System and Accounting students. Professor Hjorth worked for several years as a Social Worker and supervisor in residential facilities for troubled adolescents in California and Illinois. Prior to that time she worked with low income families in the state of Montana. She has a MA in clinical psychology, a BA in Sociology and is currently working on a graduate degree in Written Communication. Her varied experiences have provided her with a rich background that has guided the focus of Claiming Your Victories. Her passion, whether it is in social service or academics, involves the application of motivators to goal achievement and effective problem solving. In most cases the information that she has learned from working with adolescents in the Barrio, low income mothers in Montana or students from different colleges is that goals can only be achieved through perseverance, hard work, career related skills, desire and a strong focus on enjoying the challenge while looking forward to the end result. Linda Hjorth's recent writing has included (co edited) "Technology and Society: A Bridge to the 21st Century, " with B. Eichler, A. Khan and J. Morello. (Prentice Hall, 2000); "Who Do You Think You Are? Interpersonal Interactions" with M. Bakalis (Prentice Hall, l998) and "The Irwin Career Handbook" (Richard D. Irwin Publishing Company, l993.) She has also published several instructor's manuals and test files that support psychology textbooks. See less
