JOAQUIN GONZALEZ DORAO He was born in Cadiz and studied Biological Sciences in Seville. He moved to Madrid to study a course in professional photography and worked a couple of years as an assistant photographer in the fields of advertising, fashion and art. He studied advertising at the Workshop of Imaginary Arts and after passing through various studies and some other ad agencies where he worked as Art Director, has ended up devoting himself to the field of illustration as a freelancer, so his training could be described as self-taught and eclectic. His professional side could be split in the purely commercial (his work as an illustrator) and strictly personal, area where his watercolors and travel diaries come together. In them their two passions, watercolor and travel, are mixed, since he started traveling the world, back in the 80s of last century. He has been on five continents and has brought home memories in the form of diaries with illustrations by watercolor on China, Australia, Mali, Ethiopia, Greece, Croatia, Peru, Turkey, Brazil ... His journey began as a need to reflect in writing their experiences in travel. He soon took with him a box of watercolors and added tickets, tags and museum tickets to his sketchbooks. All these elements were forming what is now the backbone of his diaries, watercolors and any graphic elements in two dimensions that can be pasted on a sheet (stamps, flowers, sand, butterflies, leaves, cans, cigarette butts ...) and reflects the kaleidoscope of sensations of a journey. He usually travels alone, backpacking, and without reservation, improvising. He likes to move a lot, in local transport, and is not very demanding in terms of comfort during the trip. He has exhibited in 2008 at the bookstore Altar Barcelona travel his travelogue of Ethiopia. He has been invited 8 times the "Rendez-Vous International Travel Notebooks" Clermont-Ferrand (France).
