Jia Pingwa is the author of the novels The Shaanxi Opera , winner of the Mao Dun Literature Prize, Happy Dreams , Turbulence , Ruined City , White Nights , The Earthen Gate , The Lantern Bearer , The Mountain Whisperer , and Broken Wings .
