He has been a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Research and Writing Fellow in the Program on Peace and International Cooperation, and a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow. He is currently working on the second in a series of natural history memoirs, In Search of the Paper Nautilus - Life is a Beach Afterall, while relishing self-isolation in his mountain retreat on the Phantom Canyon Ranch.
