David Garland
DAVID GARLAND is the Arthur T. Vanderbilt Professor of Law and Professor of Sociology at New York University and a Professorial Fellow at Edinburgh University School of Law. He is the author of several books in the sociology of punishment, including Punishment and Modern Society (1990), The Culture of Control (2001) and Peculiar Institution (2010). His most recent book is The Welfare State: A Very Short Introduction (2016).
