Barbara Klug Redman, PhD, RN, FAAN, is Dean and Professor at the Wayne State University College of Nursing. She received her masters and doctoral degrees at the University of Minnesota and her BSN at South Dakota State University and a second masters in bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania. Barbara Klug Redman, PhD, RN, FAAN, is Dean and Professor at the Wayne State University College of Nursing. She received her masters and doctoral degrees at the University of Minnesota and her BSN at South Dakota State University and a second masters in bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania. She has been a postdoctoral fellow at The John Hopkins University, a fellow in Medical Ethics at Harvard Medical School, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. Dr. Redman's career began as a staff nurse at a hospital in South Dakota. Dr. Redman has been Executive Director of the American Nurse Association, American Nurses Foundation, and American Association of Colleges of Nursing. She has also held professorships at the universities of Washington, Minnesota, Connecticut, and John Hopkins University. She has received honorary doctorates from Georgetown University and the University of Colorado. Dr. Redman has published numerous works in patient education including "The Practice of Patient Education, " which is now in its ninth edition and has been translated into Japanese, Finnish, Dutch and German.
