Alibris Launches Redesigned Web Site for Libraries

The online book, music, and movie marketplace enhances its successful library business with improved features and services for librarians

EMERYVILLE, CA—February 17, 2009—Alibris, the Internet's premier independent marketplace for new and used books, music, and movies, has launched a redesigned and functionally enhanced Alibris for Libraries Web site. For more than ten years, Alibris for Libraries has assisted thousands of librarians around the world with their acquisition and collection development needs. The new library Web site empowers libraries with an even better resource for finding new and used books, and out-of-print, out-of-stock movie and music items. The new site makes it easier than ever to fulfill collection needs at reduced costs, at a time when libraries are struggling with budget cuts and economic hardship.

Alibris for Libraries has served its dedicated and growing base of library customers for a decade, making Alibris well-known for its library services, including Want List Matching, invoicing, shipment consolidation, and premium customer service. Well regarded by librarians at private and public institutions as the leading marketplace for new, out-of-print, out-of-stock, rare, and used books, Alibris for Libraries continues to build on its reputation by offering the following improvements on its new Web site:

  • Enhanced movie and music offerings. Site improvements have made it easy for libraries to purchase movie items and music items for their collections by making search easier, streamlining Alibris's extensive master catalog, and adding media cover art and other product data. The improvements will result in better searches and more helpful information being presented to librarians.
  • Easier access to 100 million items. The incredible breadth and depth of book, music, and movie offerings available through Alibris are now even easier to find and order, due to upgraded navigation menus and a redesigned user interface.
  • New multi-ISBN search functionality. Librarians often need to search for more than a single item at a time. Now they have access to a multi-ISBN search box on Alibris for Libraries, which allows librarians to conduct more efficient searches of up to 20 ISBNs at a time. Their search results are also presented as recommended bundles of the items available at the lowest price and best condition.
  • Improved Collection Reports service. Libraries have long turned to Alibris for Libraries when needing to backfill collections or to build new collections. Their free Collection Reports service, which generates lists of titles by subject, has now been improved, making it easier to use, interactive, and available for online submission.
"We are thrilled to launch our new Alibris for Libraries site," said Brian Elliott, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alibris. "Our library business is an important component in the overall success and operation of our marketplace, so we dedicated resources over the last year to plan and implement the new and better services for our library customers."

Elliott continued by explaining that Alibris for Libraries has been re-launched at a time when librarians around the world are grappling with budget cuts and other fallout from the global economic crisis. "Libraries are still able to stretch their budgets by turning to Alibris for Libraries, where they will not only be provided with consolidated free shipping, purchase order capabilities, and a dedicated library services team, but will also spend less time searching for new and used books, music, and movies, and can have their search results presented as best-price bundles."

Alibris for Libraries consistently delivers value to existing and new library customers in many ways, including free services like Collection Reports and Want List Matching, informative case studies about library successes, low-priced alternatives to interlibrary loans, and flexible billing options (including purchase orders). "We invite librarians to tour our new Alibris for Libraries site," said Elliott. "We're confident that they will like what they see and that they will find us to be a great benefit and a competitive bargain."
