My wife and I have used this book in two trips to the French Alps, and we're already planning a third. The book focuses on the wildest valleys and peaks of the Alps. The authors really know their trails, and they suggest many hikes of varying difficulty in gorgeous places. They put special emphasis on the protected national and regional parks known as the Vanoise, the Ecrins, the Queyras, and the Mercantour. Areas developed with ski lifts and modern resorts are omitted, so you won't find the Chamonix Valley in this book.
