Excerpt from Travels Through the Alps IN 1859 Professor Forbes collected his scattered essays and notes relating to his scientific observations on glaciers in a volume entitled, Occasional Papers on the Theory of Glaciers, now first collected and chronologically arranged (edinburgh, A. C. Black). Forbes, however, never seems to have thought of similarly collecting his writings which describe his travels in the Alps.
