La presencia en el libro de asedios, batallas, historias de amor y personajes heterog???neos dotan a la obra de un ritmo fren???tico. La novela recorre la ???poca no s???lo desde el punto de vista militar, pero tambi???n pol???tico, econ???mico, art???stico, y religioso. La labor de documentaci???n del autor es inmensa.
