Read "Silent Spring" then THIS.
"We have met the enemy, and he is us." This book is a factual walk through the history of the horrifying illness that struck in an odd conjunction with the use of DDT and its predecessors like Paris Green. While not directly stating directly that DDT caused Polio (or that the subsequent discontinuation of DDT and not the Salk vaccine was the reason the epidemic ended), the author notes that DDT made poliomyelitis more likely due to the effects of DDT exposure to the lining of the spinal cord. This book so closely correlates to Silent Spring that the two should be sold together, and this book should be required reading in college courses about the dangers of the blithe over-use of chemicals which continues today.
