The tales first appeared in serialized form in "The Royal Magazine" in 1901, during the interval between the "death" of Sherlock Holmes and his reappearance in "The Hound of The Baskervilles" in 1902, a period when the public was hungry for detective stories. The last book in the series was published in 1925.
