"The Jasons" is an interesting history about a little known advisory group that provided advice to the Department of Defense. It started several years after the Second World War and was made up with many of the WW II Atomic Scientist. Since then it has expanded to include scientist and engineers from other technical areas. As one who has participated in Advisory Boards, it seems to me to be very similar to other DoD and Military Service Advisory Boards. The book describes controversies that have arisen between them and their sponsors. It also discusses problems that exist in modern day society that make it more difficult for the Jasons to conduct their analysis and provide advice. When all is said and done, the DoD and Military Services need good unbiased technical advice and the Jasons seem to provide it.
