Like much of the writing on this obscure but historically vital war, this account is unsatisfying. The thin sources that exist on this subject are extrapolated and seamlessly worked into a dry, academic narrative. Exactly one would expect from a the studied pen of a professor. Informative and somnolent writing at its best.

Superb History of a critical conflict
The Second Punic War is well known because of the amazing Hannibal. Lazenby's history of the First War, no less important to history, is the only serious account of this conflict in English. Well written and well researched.
