This was a surprising book. I thought it would be depressing but it ended up being very uplifting. It was about a woman who was involved in a violent event that resulted in months of panic attacks, anxiety and depression. Her husband was away at sea and she was feeling overwhelmed. Because I couldn't relate to those things, I felt a little dragged down, and I wanted her to "snap out of it". Then the character started a project in which she decided to do something kind for someone every day. Sometimes they were very small things, but it helped get her focus off of herself and onto others. I know I can easily get caught up in my own concerns and problems, and can forget how much a kindness can mean in someone's life. I decided to do the same project for a month. It's surprising how much giving, gives back to you. This book has led to the blog pennysproject.blogspot.com which has some ideas for things you can do if you accept the challenge, too.
