SYNOPSIS: The Life of St Francis of Assisi is one of the world's most beautiful and inspirational stories. For centuries, St Francis has been studied by scholars and romanticized by novelists. In The Song of St Francis Fray Angelico Chavez retells the stales and myths that surround this gentle knight and in an unpretentious style traces the path of Francis's early longing for adventure as it evolves into his devotion to poverty and his search for the bird of perfect joy. The book is enhanced by charming line drawings which match the text in elegant simplicity. Fray Angelico Chavez was born in New Mexico in 1910. He studied with Franciscan friars in their colleges in Cincinnati and Detroit, joined the Order in 1929 and was ordained in 1937. He worked as a missionary among Pueblo Indians and restored many historical old chapels. He is the author of many books of both prose and poetry and is now the archivist of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe where he lives.
