ââ?¬Å"Six Moons, Seven Gods: The Legends of Baelonââ?¬Â? by Robert A. Walker introduces the King of Baelon and his people as they are grieving the loss of the kingdomââ?¬â?¢s beloved queen and princess. The kingââ?¬â?¢s architect is gone as well, but his wife and his daughter Sibil are still alive. And with assassins on the loose, murderous plots against the king, and a rapist in the castle, the king and his loyal subjects have their hands full. As Sibilââ?¬â?¢s mother begins to reveal strange visions she has been getting, Sibil realizes she herself has some part to play in all of this. She takes on knight-like training like her twin best friends, Theos and Tristan, and seeks to discover the truth about whatââ?¬â?¢s going on in the kingdom.
This sword & sorcery fantasy is well-written, and unlike much of its peer medieval fiction, it seems very refined. The prologue is compelling and a great opener to the story, inciting intrigue from the very start. Each chapter starts with a quote from a character or an organization in the book. These are clever little hints as to what the people and organizations are like.
The novel is not so much about certain protagonists, as there are many, but is more about Baelon as a whole. There is a lot going on, and it is told masterfully. It consistently jumps from different characters perspectives, including those of the assassins. It is a story that shows the effects of events on everyone, rather than on just central characters. This gives it a lived-in feel as if the events really happened and the characters are real. The time period is not specified, but it feels as though it is medieval, and it is not heavy on fantasy, as there are only a few whimsical elements. Everything comes together slowly, but with a complex plot and sizeable cast, its a valued necessity.
Author Robert A. Walker has a certain charm about his writing in ââ?¬Å"Six Moons, Seven Gods.ââ?¬Â? He throws a lure, and the reader takes it, slowly getting pulled out of their own reality and into that of the story. Overall, with heaps of interesting characters, good writing, and an excitingly winding plot, anyone who likes medieval fiction would find this book highly interesting.

In Robert A. Walkers Six Moons, Seven Gods, loyalty and treachery entwine, friendships are tested, and dangerous secrets are held close to the heart. As deadly schemes unfold, an assassins life takes unexpected turns. At the same time, old acquaintances are revived from oblivion, and cryptic messages are delivered in this powerful plot thats filled with many uncertainties. Additionally, rumors of murder spread about the land and threaten all who dwell within its borders. In this mystical world, chaos is propagated by the one sworn to the people, a daring assassination is set in motion, and the fate of a powerful captive is left yet to be decided. Six Moons, Seven Gods is a political tale that involves an intriguing mix of characters, including lovers, assassins, rulers, thieves, and a dreamer.
Robert A. Walker weaves themes of action, power, friendship, and love to create a brilliant, compelling narrative that hooks the reader from start to finish. I found myself turning the pages quickly as I couldnââ?¬â?¢t wait to unravel the next part of the plot. I especially enjoyed the authorââ?¬â?¢s depiction of caramadie and friendship, as the characters are seen joking and teasing one another with statements like ââ?¬Å"You couldnââ?¬â?¢t rob a blind man if he left his doors unlocked.ââ?¬Â? Furthermore, the vivid descriptions make it a joy to picture the characters. For example, one character is described as having ââ?¬Å"chiseled facial features, skin browned by the sun, and thick crown of black curly hair.ââ?¬Â?
Six Moons, Seven Gods is told through multiple perspectives and involves various characters from different walks of life. I especially like Mari, as she blacks out and has visions that make her seem mysterious and intriguing. This is also the first book in the Legends of Baelon series, so keep in mind that this novel is setting up the whole series.
Fans of books set in a medieval, magical world will be captivated by this book. Amidst assassination plots and arrow attacks, visionary characters and mystical incidents leave you with suspense and deep questions that keep you turning the pages for more. Readers will find themselves laughing, their hearts racing, and their minds engaged with its intricate plot.
