Points in Time, Vol. 4 carries on the tradition of the preceding three volumes, chronicling many of the best tracks from Good Looking's deep drum'n'bass catalog from the mid- to late '90s. Though there are nine different artists featured on the compilation, most of the songs have a similar feel once they get going: up-tempo breakbeats, smooth rolling basslines, plenty of subtle melodies, and the miscellaneous forms of tranquil ambience so often associated with the label. Some songs such as Invisible Man's "The Tone Tune" drift toward the darker, more banging side of drum'n'bass, but the exclusion of rude, mutant basslines in favor of ghostly synths keep it within the boundaries of Good Looking's signature sound. Other songs such as Axis' "High Point" keep their flow much more mellow, focusing primarily on synth tones until over a minute into the track when the first breakbeat comes out of nowhere. The fact that these songs aren't mixed together by a DJ actually compliments them, allowing the listener to revel in the holistic experience of every song rather than succumb to the DJ's decision about how much and which part of a given track to spin.
