The natives eventually resist, but their uprising is crushed. Bukon Pepon unites the tribes and secures independence. Many humans leave, nostalgic for Peponi's former paradise, while some stay to build a new future. Both humans and Pepons see their economy and resources decline due to overpopulation, hunting, tribal divisions, and introduced species.
