personal Journey
"Opal Adventures" is just what the title describes, a very personal journey by the author and his wife as they experience in minute detail the "life of an opal miner."
As a gemology student, I scanned it quickly out of curiosity and it did give me a sense of history of the Austrailian Opal mines of the 1900's. I have not found anything on the Internet to verify that Dr. Downing was ever recognized as an authority of precious opal by the GIA, AGS, IGA, however.
