The author Roger Knowles is a chartered quantity surveyor, chartered arbitrator, barrister and CEDR accredited mediator. He began his career in 1954 as a quantity surveyor working in private practice. In 1973 he founded James R. Knowles. From humble beginnings the company has grown to be a quoted company on the AIM market. Roger Knowles is the Chairman and Chief Executive of James R. Knowles Holdings plc and James R. Knowles Ltd. He is also chairman of eight subsidiary companies. His career has involved representing clients in many parts of the world, including East Asia, the Middle East and throughout the United Kingdom. His work includes the preparation and resolution of construction claims, representing parties in arbitration and acting as arbitrator, adjudicator and mediator. Roger Knowles has been involved in training over the years. His specialist subjects include construction law, contract administration, arbitration and ADR. He has lectured at well over 1000 public seminars on a worldwide basis. During a 20-year period commencing in the 1970s Roger Knowles has been a regular contributor to technical journals with more than 300 of his articles having been published. His career has also included representing subcontracting trade associations, and he is a former member of the Joint Contracts Tribunal.
