Most of the stories in this anthology fall into the "nice try" category. One, "Lawnboy," is really memorable. It works beautifully as a short story, and is one of the great gay short stories America has produced (for another, read "Pages from Cold Point" by Paul Bowles). Unfortunately, Lisicky later expanded it into a novel, which doesn't work nearly as well.
