I've read all Harold Nicolson's Diaries and Letters. Also read a couple Vita Sackville-West's books and "Portrait of a Marriage". All sensational. I've not read "A Long Life" yet, as I'm rereading Anne Perry's World War I series at the moment. Same period in British history.
The Nicolson family is so bright and insightful. And they've been around for so long, and have known so many influential people and been to so many interesting places. Their opinions about social and political activities were fascinating.
Here are some more recommendations for you:
Juliet Nicolson's "A Perfect Summer" is splendid, and you might want to watch "The Shooting Party", a story that takes place in the autumn of 1913.
