While the first volume of CMH Records' four-CD series Hushabye Baby: Lullaby Renditions of Country Music Favorites concentrated on favorites from the last few years before the 2008 release date, the second volume travels back further in time, selecting some songs that were in the country charts for their original artists as long ago as the 1990s. The oldest one is "Should've Been a Cowboy," Toby Keith's first hit from 1993. Several others, however, are near-contemporary and will be familiar to young parents who are country music fans. Of course, these treatments are not really lively. It's just that this may be the album to put on in the half-hour before bedtime, with the first volume to follow when it's actually time to put the youngsters to sleep. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
