A century later, John Stuart Mill made the attempt, but he got no farther than the coinage of a new name ethology. It might perhaps be supposed that the revolutionary progress since made in biology and psychology would render a science of character more practicable. So far from this being the case, however, the progress of knowledge has shown that such a science is for the present altogether impossible.
