I found this historical biography well presented and an easy read. Obviously much information is intertwined with the history of St. Loius, and so a student of local history would be wise to encompass this book as part of their reading matter.
However, I thought the author had glossed over some important areas of interest, namely a detaled account of the slave dealings of Henry Shaw, and also his financial matters.
All in all, in my opinion a good solid biography to be recommended to all those whom have an interest in Heny Shaw and the start and set up of the botanic gardens.
