This has to be one of the best books of all time. That being said, everyone I know (including me) has hated it the first time they read it. You have to be willing to work through the symbolism (on your own; the symbols can mean drastically different things to different people), but the end result is well worth the effort. If you read it:
1. Take notes!! 2. Research the events of the book (read the supplemental materials in this edition). 3. If you don't like it the first time, wait a bit and then come back to it.
